ACRE
ANIMALS.

FUR &
FEATHERS.

As Acre Resort came together, so did our animal family. From day one, strange and wonderful creatures have made their way onto the property and into our hearts. Like it was meant to be.

Acre co-founder Cameron Watt’s daughter Rachael began to sneak lost, abandoned and sometimes broken animals into the fold. News of her ability to rehabilitate horses, camels and puppies traveled fast. They began to thrive and returned the love in spades. Their quirks and charm have transcended the property’s edge. Some have become legends.

Visitors scamper to say hello to Burrito the burro, touted as one of the world’s top five most beloved resort residents. He doesn’t care much about anything except for Dombeya leaves and the girl who rescued him. His braying can be heard half a mile away, once he hears Rachael’s voice.

Dozens of rabbits, chickens, pigs and ducks make their home here. Walk around the property and you’ll be sure to cross paths with one of the wandering peacocks. And no trip is complete without a little time spent with the affectionate Pygmy goats.

Acre Dogs

Mexico, like many places in the world, is home to millions of roaming street dogs. This results in countless puppies born with little hope for a happy healthy life.

Rachael Watt and Claudia Ramirez lead a team of dedicated animal lovers who rescue, rehabilitate and find new homes for abandoned dogs with a focus on pregnant mamas and puppies. More than 1000 dogs have been adopted since 2019. We also host annual Spay & Neuter Clinics to help reduce the street dog population in our Cabo community.

Acre Dogs and the rest of the animals are available for visits every day. Our animal caretakers are usually nearby to set you up with a leash if you’d like to take a dog for a walk. And if you happen to make a connection with a new best friend, we can arrange an adoption in no time. We also match volunteer flight escorts with adopters across North America.
